1.8 Getting Making

Today was the first of two final making sessions. As agreed in the previous session we had two teams, working on the models and the boxes respectively. We started by looking at the components that I had made for 15 simple bird boxes - which we could adapt and finish over the next week or so. We discussed how they are held together and how they would protect the work. We then looked at the clay pieces that Maria had had fired. We discussed how some had worked while others didn't.

We then looked at all the materials we had for today and what we could do wight them based on the work produced last session. We talked about using the special acrylic paints, delicate brushes and wider rollers, and also looked at some mirrored papers and shiny jewels, before splitting into two groups.

The rest of the session was spent making! Everyone worked on individual pieces, initially getting used to the materials and generating ideas, then completing the paint work to turn the plain coloured items into fantastic colourful art pieces. We made sure to think carefully about what sort of colours and patterns might be best - always referring back to our previous work and our trip to the park.

We finished the session by looking quickly at what each group had done and discussing how we wanted to finish everything next week. In particular we talked about what different materials and process we thought would be good to use, which seemed to focus mainly around fabrics.
