1.1 Brainstorming Amazing Art Trails
Today we introduced the project to the wonderful year 3 class! We spent a good amount of time together as a whole group discussing what an art trail might be and looking at lots of images of trails, maps and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP). Everyone was super enthusiastic and there where lots of questions and comments.
We then worked on individual brainstorms for 'an amazing art trail' that we will eventually create together! Everyone created their own diagrammatic map using collaged photos, as well as drawing and writing, which led from the local area in Bromley by Bow up towards the QEOP. Everyone was asked to think about what sort of things might you find along a 'dream' art trail.
All the maps turned out to be really exciting pieces of work; very individual and all with fantastic detail and imagination. During the process of making a number of key elements of what a trail might include seemed to emerge, which we were able to share with each other for everyone to start to consider in their own designs. These included spaces to stop and rest, messages and stories that might be told along the way, what might mark the beginning and end of the trails, and who might the trails be for.
To end the session we came back together to look through what had been made that afternoon. We went through each drawing, asking its creator to explain just one or two elements of it. Through doing this, we were then able to come up with a great group list of potential themes to explore as the project continues.
